CPA MINUTE: Investing in Tomorrow

“Hello, I’m Barbara L’Heureux, I grew up here in Burlington and when I married my husband 30 years ago, we chose to buy a house and raise our family here.

We have an election coming up in November. One of the ballot questions for voters to decide on is question 5: The Community Preservation Act.

I have been serving on the Burlington Planning Board now for 10 years and I am deeply committed to the long-term success of our town.

One of the hardest things for me about serving on Planning Board is that we are so busy with the influx of new business applications that is often difficult to find the time to work on more long-term goals.

The same thing happens in our town’s budgeting process. We have so many immediate needs to consider: facilities, equipment, contracts etc, that often times, there just isn’t enough time or money to work on long term projects that will improve our quality of life ten, twenty or fifty years down the road.We are so focused on today, that we may not plan for the Burlington of our children or grandchildren’s future.

The CPA addresses this need by putting money aside for worthy projects that will leave a lasting legacy for future generations of Burlington residents.Parks, walking trails, historical and environmental preservation are initiatives that will improve the quality of life for Burlington residents for decades to come.

So I am voting YES to the CPA on November 8th and I hope you will join me.”
